Used by the United States’ Strategic Air Command (SAC) beginning in 1955.  Can take on fuel in the air.  For many years, there was a fleet of B-52s in the air at all times.  Movie buffs will recognize the Stratofortress from 1963s Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.  Can carry 20,000 lbs of bombs and its guns fire 4,000 rounds per minute.
