Also known as the R5C, the American-made C-46 was the largest cargo plane of World War II. Able to carry 40 paratroopers and equipment, or 12,000 pounds of cargo, the Commando was especially useful in Asia. The supply line for China went over the Himalayas and the fewer trips over those mountains the better. Therefore, the large carry capacity was appreciated. 3,341 were built.
