The Curtiss Hawk is one of the most famous biplanes of the 1920.  They won or placed in several air races in the 180 mph range or faster.  The Hawk was fitted with different engine and tail configurations giving a large variety of designations.  Machine guns were synchronized with the propeller.  The XP-21 was really a P-3 with the Wasp Jr. engine, and the P-6 was a P-1 with a different engine as well.
