Made in USA by Grumman Aerospace Corp. The US Navy began using the F-14 on aircraft carriers in 1974. The F-14 was developed in response to the Soviet MiG-25, which could fly at Mach 3. Iran received 80 of these in the late 1970s, though it’s doubtful that many are in flying condition today. A fast and maneuverable plane, the F-14 is easily identified by the two vertical stabilizers. The wings are extended on takeoff and then sweep back during high-speed flight. It eventually replaced both the Vought F-8 Crusader and the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom.
