The Navy’s first supersonic jet, yet the Tiger was never able to overcome enough obsticals to become a fully functioning fighter.  Though highly maneuverable, the engine was underpowered, (while putting in a more powerful one made it too heavy for carrier use) and the wings were too thin for rugged combat needs.  Mainly, the F11F was used for training, and most famously, as the jet the Blue Angels used during most of the 1960s.  Once during testing, a diving Tiger outran its own bullets and basically shot itself down.  Luckily, the pilot was good enough that he was able to crash land without being seriously injured.
