In 1949, the Navy’s Blue Angels first jet plane was the Panther. The F9F was an excellent carrier plane, with a take-off of 800 feet and a landing speed of less than 100 mph. The Panther was agile and quick for the early 1950s. Over 1300 were produced for the US Navy and used as fighter-bombers in Korea. Grumman gave the Panther a new wing shape and renamed the F9F the Cougar.
