First put in service in 1944, the A-26 was an incredible bomber, suffering the lowest loss rate of any American bombers. After World War II, the Air Force gave them a B designation instead of the A. High-mounted wings fitted with 2000 horsepower engines gave the Invader excellent speed. The design of the Invader was so good that the plane was in use through the Korea and Vietnam conflicts, finally phased out in 1969.
