The F3D was an early fighter jet plane. Built to be a night fighter, the Skynight included radar and was the first jet to shoot-down another jet at night during the Korean war, it also shot down more aircraft than any other during that same conflict. There was also an escape hatch that allowed the crew to exit at high speed. The pilot sat next to the radar operator in this cockpit. This configuration gave the F3D a wide nose for the radar equipment.
