The Beaufighter was England’s response to the need for a heavy fighter.  The Beaufighter was used as a night fighter and long-range bomber escort.  Equipped with radar for excellent night fighting and a large fuel tank, the Beaufighter had several advantages on single engine fighters.  Some were equipped with radar and torpedoes and used as anti-ship weapons, at which they excelled.
